Good lobbying practice
The recommendations for good lobbying practice prepared by the Advisory Board for the Finnish Transparency Register promote a good lobbying culture. Parties carrying out lobbying or lobbying consultancy activities can publicly commit to observe these recommendations.
The recommendations for good lobbying practice are as follows:
We respect the democratic decision-making process.
We act in an honest and respectful manner.
We openly disclose for whom we are working and which interests we are promoting.
We openly disclose our interests.
We respect confidentiality.
We observe the rules of hospitality.
Commit to responsible lobbying
The recommendations for good lobbying practice are based on the principles of self-regulation, and they encourage actors carrying out lobbying to adhere to responsible practices. An organisation registered in the Finnish Transparency Register may commit to the recommendations by logging in to the service portal and activating the checkbox ‘We follow good lobbying practice’ on the basic information page. You can unmark the box by clicking it again.
Committing to the recommendations does not require registration in the Finnish Transparency Register, which means that an unregistered organisation can submit a free-form notification of its commitment to the registrar (National Audit Office of Finland) to avoimuusrekisteri@vtv.fi. The full name of the organisation in Finnish or Swedish and any translations of the name must be given in the notification.
Registered organisations that have committed to the recommendations will have a ‘We follow good lobbying practice’ label added to their registration profile in the Transparency Register. All committed organisations may also use the label in their own communications.
